U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis releases 2020 economic impact of outdoor recreation

New data released by the U.S Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) illustrates the economic impact of outdoor recreation in 2020. This report provides insights on the effect of the pandemic on the outdoor recreation market. The BEA reports that outdoor recreation accounted for $689 billion in gross output and 1.8 percent of gross domestic product in 2020.

Unsurprisingly, snow activities was the largest conventional activity in Colorado ($1.2 billion), Utah ($468.0 million), Vermont ($191.3 million), and Wyoming ($92.2 million) in current-dollar value added. At the national level, current-dollar value added for snow activities was $4.7 billion.
