In 2022 and 2023, nine Colorado land management agencies partnered through NoCo Places to hire RRC to assess visitor use across Colorado’s Front Range. RRC’s MOVEMENT product anchored the research, using mobile location data to analyze visitation patterns at 70 of Colorado’s most visited locations. The findings supported NoCo Places’ long-term planning and are available via an interactive dashboard on the Custom Research Dashboards page of our website.
Clear and accurate measurement of growing visitation to Colorado’s public lands is essential for effective land management. The study also reveals the challenges of estimating visitor use in high-traffic areas and underscores the importance of interpreting mobility data with a trained and thoughtful eye.
